Mckenzie Bird

A real hands-on, outdoors individual who doesn’t mind getting stuck in she is good with stock and is interested in genetics and velvet practice within the deer industry having previously had a little exposure to working with deer.

Chief Whakaue

We welcome Chief Whakaue on the Future Deer Farmers Experience, Chief is in the first year of a two year cadetship at Smedley Station, Central Hawkes Bay.

He has a lifelong dream to one day own his own farm and to become an ambassador for the agricultural industry while at the same time exposing people who don't have the opportunities he has been fortunate with to the rural lifestyle.

Kate Goodson

Kate is keen on animal health, genetics and deer management practices within the deer industry. She is studying to become a Rural Technician specialising in deer and is doing this through the Waikato Institute of Technology in 2019.

Kate believes there is great potential for future innovations within the deer sector and she would like to be part of this in the future. She has limited experience in working with deer but has found a passion for the animal via a work placement with Tower Farms in Cambridge.

Maddy Calder

Maddy is currently based in Cromwell working fulltime and studying for her level 4 in agriculture via Primary ITO.  In 2018, she studied at the Otago Polytechnic completing their High Country Farming Programme level 3.

Keen to learn more about the deer industry, she one day wants to work with deer and is always looking for opportunities and challenges to develop and extend her knowledge, she sees this experience as an opportunity to do this. Welcome Maddy!

We look forward to showing them what an amazing industry it is!
